Elbow – Sober

Elbow aren’t interested in staying tidy. “Sober” is the latest detour in their ongoing studio joyride—equal parts disco strut and lyrical self-examination. It opens with Garvey’s moon-eyed romanticism and slides confidently into groove-heavy territory, guided by the debut contribution of drummer Alex Reeves and a rhythm section that sounds anything but sober.

The track builds on the slick swagger of “Adriana Again” and leans even harder into grit and bounce. At the same time, the lyrics find Garvey digging through his archive of pre-domestic debauchery.

Elbow might be older, but they haven’t gone gentle—they’ve just found a funkier way to misbehave.
“Sober” kicks off Audio Vertigo Echo, a four-track EP that rounds out their last full-length with fresh punch, weird nostalgia, and the kind of tight looseness that only comes from seasoned players having a very good time. It’s not just a continuation—it’s a celebration. And this time, you can dance to it.
